(Boston)—Boston University successfully concluded the International Conference on Food Styling and Photography: A World View of Business, Techniques, and Design, held from June 1 - 4, 2007 at BU's Metropolitan College (MET).

Sponsored by the Graduate Program in Gastronomy, the intensive four-day conference brought together prominent names in food styling, photography and design and featured 18 programs, panel presentations, and master classes aimed at professionals in this exciting industry. Just over 200 food photography professionals attended from all over the United States and many corners of the world, with 27 attendees representing 14 countries outside of the U.S.

From styling and photographic technique demonstrations to interactive discussions, the conference addressed the important issues facing both food photographers and those that commission their work - from food corporations to cookbook and magazine publishers. Insightful advice on small business marketing and promotions for both photographers and stylists was also on the program.

Lisa Golden Schroeder and John Carafoli, international food stylists, writers, and culinary consultants, chaired the conference. Keynote speaker Darra Goldstein, editor of Gastronomica: The Journal of Food and Culture, discussed the social and cultural commentary of food images. Other prominent speakers included Shirley Corriher, author of Cookwise and the "Mad Scientist" on the Food Network's Good Eats, and Harold McGee, author of On Food and Cooking: The Science and Lore of the Kitchen, and the photography team from Gourmet magazine. In addition to the unique programming, one evening featured a lobster boil prepared by noted chef Jasper White.
