Hawaiian French Toast
Enjoy this Hawaiian French Toast, a pan-fried French toast recipe that is made with sweet bread, and served with coconut syrup. Serve fresh pineapple on the side!
This Hawaiian French Toast tastes like a sweet bread French toast casserole, but instead, it’s a good old-fashioned French toast—the way my mama made it. You know, pull out the frying pan, and serve with a dusting of powdered sugar.
Hawaiian French Toast
We love the “Hawaiian twist” on the traditional French toast! And it’s delicious paired with our Honey Pepper Bacon; a perfect weekend breakfast!
Hawaiian bread French toast is pan-fried, and uses a sweet bread that you can find in most stores.
Since Mother’s Day is coming, this is a great recipe to make for Mom. Plus, the whole family will love it.
You may have already tried our Blueberry French Toast Casserole with Hawaiian bread, which is so good. This recipe is also a real crowd-pleaser!
Why I love this recipe
- It’s an easy recipe to make, with simple ingredients.
- Serve with powdered sugar and coconut syrup for the ultimate French toast breakfast!
- It’s a tropical breakfast – with coconut, pineapple, and a lot of love!
Gather these ingredients to make Hawaiian French Toast
- Sweet round bread loaf: if you can’t find in the store, optional to use Brioche bread
- Eggs
- Milk
- Orange juice
- Vanilla
- Cinnamon
- Butter
- Powdered sugar
- Coconut syrup: also optional to use maple or date syrup
- Strawberries
- Pineapple chunks
How do you make Hawaiian bread French toast?
- Slice bread crosswise so that each slice is about 1-inch thick. Cut larger slices into halves or thirds, if desired. Set aside.
- In a shallow mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla and cinnamon. Mix occasionally to ensure it’s well-blended.
- Quickly dip slices (do not soak) in egg mixture and cook in frying pan, over medium heat, until golden brown on both sides.
How do you serve French toast?
Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with warm coconut syrup. Optional to add fruit, such as pineapple, strawberries or blueberries.
Tips and substitutions:
- Optional to serve with favorite jam and regular maple syrup, although pineapple is divine!
- If you can’t find Hawaiian bread, use brioche bread. Both breads are naturally sweeter than your classic white bread.
- Keep your heat LOWER than normal and turn it up as needed. If the outside burns quickly, the inside will not cook.
- Feel free to add other spices or extracts to your custard mixture if desired. For example, add cardamom.
- Optional to add cream for a richer flavor profile (in place of milk + orange juice).
- Did you know? Allowing the bread to dry out before making French toasts prevents the recipe from getting too soggy.
More toppings to add:
- Flavored butters (lavendar butter is delish!)
- Whipped cream
- Berry syrup or date syrup
- Granola
- Toasted dried coconut chunks
Enjoy for a weekend treat!
